PhD in Life Sciences

The PhD program in Life Sciences offers traninig and top level formation in two curricula: Biodiversity and Conservation; Cell functional morphology, Physiopathology, and Pharmacology. The first curriculum focuses on traininig of experienced PhDs in evolutionary and ecological mechanisms at the basis of biodiversity, nature conservation, the management of the anthropogenic environment, and the enjoyment of the agro-food heritage. Students enrolling in curriculum Cell functional morphology, Physiopathology, and Pharmacology will experience profesional training in reserches on functional, morphological, ultrastructural and molecular aspects of cells and tissues in order to characterize the pathogenic factors at the basis of disease and to understand the impact of new drugs on cell behavior. PhD students will join granted research projects and will employ various survey methodologies, up-to-date technologies and platforms managed by scentists with established international reputation. Doctoral students will have the opportunity to spend formation and reserch periods in foreign laboratories enabling them to develop high porfessionality in the use of modern research methods and to establish international collaborations. The course program represents the natural training track continuation for graduates in Biology and closely related second level courses, as well as for for graduates in Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Medicine.

PhD in Molecular Medicine

Molecular medicine is a discipline that is at the interface between clinical research and basic biological research. It uses physical, chemical, biological and medical methods to describe at molecular level structures and mechanisms, identify molecular or genetic modification at the basis of pathologies and develop possible molecular intervention strategies. The PhD in Molecular Medicine includes several disciplinary areas and is characterized by a wide multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity. It includes several search lines that include:

  • Genetic and epigenetic tumors
  • Women’s health (eg, endometriosis, etc.), male infertility
  • Cardiovascular and muscular strokes
  • Molecular and cellular biology of stem cells and differentiated
  • Neurobiology of behavior Physiopathology of subcellular organelles
